1. Jesus wants us to understand peace

  • Scripture Reference: John 16:33, Isaiah 26:3
  • Leader Notes
      • When we keep our minds on Christ, His peace that surpasses all understanding guards our hearts and minds. We see this in Philippians 4:4-7. So as we go into the last part of this year, to keep our minds off of what the world says to think on, and instead put our trust and thoughts on Jesus.
      • Jesus wants us to understand that the peace He gives is not like the world. The world says you will find peace in having more money, possessions, and status. Jesus says you will find peace only in Him, and He will take care of you.
      • Questions for Reflection:
        • What does God’s peace mean to me?
        • Where has my mind been searching for peace lately?

2. The Holy Spirit teaches and reminds us

  • Scripture Reference: Romans 5:1-2, Philippians 4:6-7
  • Leader Notes
      • With so many distractions in life, it’s easy to forget what Jesus has taught us. That is where the Holy Spirit comes in. To remind us of those truths. He is our Helper, and guides us back to who Jesus is and what He has said.
      • We can point out so many things that we could be anxious about. As we see in Philippians however, it says to be anxious for nothing, but instead bring all things to Jesus.
      • Questions for Reflection:
        • What is something that you had forgotten about Jesus that the Holy Spirit has recently reminded you of?
        • Where is an area you have been anxious about and need to give to the Lord?
        • How is the Spirit growing us in peace?

3. Jesus’ peace cures the troubled heart

  • Scripture Reference: Ephesians 2:14-18
  • Leader Notes
      • Jesus is the cure, because Jesus is the peace. When we allow Jesus to be at the center of our lives, our lives will be filled with peace supernaturally. Not on our own strength, but on His.
      • Jesus has broken the separation from us and the Father and we now have direct access to his presence. When we are faced with fear, turn your heart to Jesus, enjoy the powerful presence of the Father, and He will heal your troubled heart.
      • Exercise: If you have a way to play music. Pull up the song “All I Need” by The Responding. It is a very encouraging song that speaks to this very point.
      • Questions for reflection:
        • Where am I troubled or afraid?
        • What are the reasons I have for not trusting the Lord to heal my heart?
        • Exercise: Pray for one another that we would trust the Lord to bring peace, in the midst of our troubled situation, and for the Holy Spirit to remind us about who Jesus is for us.
