"Promises, promises" the saying goes. They are really something, aren't they? Presidential hopefuls pledge gas prices will be $2.50 per gallon if they are elected. A new diet drug guarantees a 10% weight loss. A big game or concert heralds if we just buy a ticket, it will be the most exciting event we have been to in years. And yet, even as we hear these promises, in the back of our mind we wonder if they will come to pass, because promises are easy to make, but hard to keep. That's just how life is. We let people down, and they let us down. And if someone breaks a promise to us, the hurt and pain we feel can range from disappointment to incredible devastation. The truth is, God is the only one who makes good on every promise He makes. Including the one that says we can overcome the trials we face in our lives. Even hardships that seem beyond our understanding or what we can bear.
