Prayer and Fasting

Welcome! Starting January 6, you'll find daily devotions here to guide and encourage you as you seek the Lord during our 7-Day Prayer and Fast. Check back each day for fresh inspiration.

But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
– Matthew 6:17-18

Fasting, in a Biblical context, is a way we can set ourselves apart to seek after God. This can involve abstaining from food, drink, or other indulgences for a specific period of time to grow in faith and self-discipline.

It’s a way to seek a deeper relationship with God, focusing on spiritual nourishment rather than physical sustenance.

WHY – Fasting is one of many spiritual disciplines in the life of a fully engaged follower of Jesus, serving as a powerful way to deepen our connection with God. When we fast, we intentionally create space for the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, drawing us closer to His presence and aligning our hearts with His will.

WHAT – Traditionally, fasting involves food (either meals or specific food groups), media, or other activities. Choose something to give up, but more importantly choose something to fill that space that will cause you to draw closer to the Lord.

WHEN – Pick a time frame that works for you, or follow along with our fasts throughout the year.  You can gradually increase the length as you become more accustomed to the discipline of fasting.

HOW –  Begin with a genuine desire for spiritual growth and set a specific purpose for your fast, seeking God’s guidance and strength throughout the process. Prioritize prayer and meditation during your fast, allowing God to work in and through you.

We believe God will meet you in a unique way as you seek him through prayer and fasting. God bless you as you simply respond to Him!
